Very true, Ralphie, but there's a way to do it without eliminating an entire thread. You can split the thread, lock the old section, and let people continue posting to the newer section.

Is the old thread available for qualified researchers?

Unless the board is archived, a resurrection is not likely.

wha happened?? I was just about getting ready to commence to being to setup a monthly backup structure where the old squeals thread would get archived and closed and a new one started, but hadn't actually taken any steps.

there -is a backup, I could roll the database back to 4am or midnight.

Webhog, evidently, the original author of this thread went to delete a post, but deleted the thread instead.

Can you set the user permissions so that this cannot happen again?

RE: keep squealin' swine
hmmm. i'm getting increasingly frustrated by some of the problems under the covers of this message board. i just spent an hour fixing a bug in the database introduced when I installed a security fix the other night.

thread split doesn't work. moving a single thread works, but moving multiple threads doesn't (I can tolerate this). there's other stuff broken around the edges but I'm getting better at figuring it out.

anyways, i'll look into the permissions and see if thats an option.

RE: keep squealin' swine
ok, I see what to do... i'll setup the SQUEALS forum so only moderators can start threads, and create a seperate section for general threads where anyone can start a thread. when I do that, I'll archive this thread and start a new one.
