Another artist who deserves a lot more recognition. His real name is Jake Smith. I had never heard of him until today, when someone posted these videos on an online forum where I hang out.

Anyone ever heard this guy on the PIG?

This song by the Notorious Cherry Bombs is, of course, a KPIG staple. But I wanted to share this because, if you've only ever heard this song on the radio, you've missed out on watching this priceless video. Every time I watch it, my sides ache from laughing so hard.

Yup, that's Rodney Crowell and Vince Gill in drag. You go, "girls" . . .

All right, music lovers, here we go again. I predict that these four young people -- Rachael Price (lead vocals, ukulele), Mike “McDuck” Olson (guitar, trumpet), Bridget Kearney (upright bass), and Mike Calabrese (percussion) -- are going to hit the big time. Certainly they should, with the gobs and gobs of talent they have between them. Now you can say that you got turned on to them when they were on the way up.

I find the sheer joy they obviously feel whenever they play music infectious. I hope you agree.

If you want to check them out some more, they recently gave an outstanding performance on the WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour (show number 704 in the Archives).

Here is another hugely talented (not to mention beautiful ) singer-songwriter that apparently the PIG doesn't play -- at least I've never heard her there. That's too bad. I mean, how could anyone argue with songs like "It Takes Balls to be a Woman" or "Yes to Booty"?

Elizabeth is also a regular DJ on Sirius Satellite Radio Outlaw Country, Channel 60. She's on daily from 7 to 11 AM, Pacific time. On-air, she comes across as super-nice, smart, funny, and sassy. IOW, she's my kind of woman . . .

KT Tunstall?

I want to ask if any of you piggies out there have ever heard KT Tunstall on KPIG. I've been listening to her a lot lately, and she is way, way, way good.

I am asking because, a while back, I emailed in a request for something by her and Laurie emailed back that they didn't have anything by her in the sty. Then, the next day, I saw on the playlist that they had played one of her songs!

I haven't heard anything by her on the PIG since or seen her name on a playlist. But then I certainly can't keep up with all the artists the PIG plays or when they play them.

If the PIG isn't playing KT regularly, they should be. She only has 3 or 4 CDs out; it shouldn't be a big deal for them to acquire her entire catalog.

Marty Collins benefit

Marty Collins has been in ICU at Stanford for 5 weeks now. Soon, he'll be moving to a rehab facility. It has been a long and courageous fight, and it ain't over yet. I just spent the last two evenings being entertained by Mark Stewart and Stacey Earle in the company of the Good Intentions. We'd all like to send a big thank you to John and Arden and everyone at Please Stand By and also to Sherry Austin for putting up the Good Intentions.
